There’s been a lot of work over the last year or so. What started off as few questions along the lines of “I didn’t know that was written in BASIC” in a few Facebook groups for the ZX Spectrum – mostly Richard Shepherd Software titles.
It has morphed into this library of games (of all genres) and utilities (all types) that were written in BASIC and accompanied by their source code in text form. Where I know the title uses UDGs, Z80 code (as binary or tucked away in a REM statement) and what kind of extras are buried in the listings has been included in the tables displayed.
These pages and the titles contained within are for those who are:
- Just want to be nosey.
- Curious about a particular game from way back when – and how to alter it.
- Want to alter the code, port it to another system or upgrade it via Boriel ZX BASIC.
- Generally want to learn about BASIC on the ZX Spectrum.
There’s lots more to do – mainly find another 7 titles to get up to the 150 mark, but also enhance the downloads by including the binary files that accompany each title. I’ve started learning how to use Tapir (thanks to Chris Flynn for the example videos) and this will help me to disassemble the code stored in REM statements.
Does anyone know of a PC-based tool that will convert stored arrays into CVS files? That would make life a lot easier for the BASIC rips, and my Quiz rips too.
Click this link to visit the BASIC RIPs main page, or click here to dive straight into the 143 (so far) listings that I have already done.
Right, time to stop waffling and continue cracking the code(s).
